Science and Mathematics Teaching Center

The Science and Mathematics Teaching Center (SMTC) is an intercollegiate interdisciplinary program committed to effective professional development and excellence in science, mathematics, and technology education. The SMTC, in cooperation with the Wyoming Department of Education, including the Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB), serves as a science and mathematics education resource and professional development center for the state.

The SMTC also provides an extensive off-campus outreach program that serves Wyoming communities, teachers, students, and school districts throughout Wyoming. In-service courses, Professional development in-service and extension courses, workshops, extension courses, institutes and conferences are provided with the principal purpose of improving science and mathematics teaching throughout Wyoming.

The central goals for the SMTC are:

to actively encourage and provide for the continual updating of in-service mathematics and science teachers (in cooperation with the school districts),
to assist in the pre-service preparation of pre-college mathematics and science educators, and
to play a major role in the graduate education of science and mathematics educators.
